At times I have tried to help God understand what I need. Was I not praying hard enough? Or did God not listen? Alas, I am grateful for perspective that comes through life’s experiences. God knows exactly what I need and allows mortal trials to shape my soul and bless me in the ways that matter most.
The early morning hours are magical. As the sun rises, the earth is renewed. We see it in the obvious, the peaceful and beautiful colors across the landscape. But this renewal extends beyond the visual senses. The early morning is a quiet time to think and to ponder. It is a time when God sends answers to our prayers, speaking softly to our souls.
A photographer works to exclude competing elements in a photograph. Distilling an image down to the most important elements can make for a strong expression. I am grateful when the opportunity presents to appreciate God’s handy work in an uncluttered view. Such was the case with this beautiful flower at the Oregon Garden. Such is also true for our lives. If we focus on the simple and most important elements of our mortal existence, our person will present a beautiful and powerful image to God and to those around us.
The bald eagle is our national emblem, chosen June 20, 1782. It symbolizes long life, strength, and majesty. My opportunities have been few, but I am grateful to be able to photograph these beautiful birds in their natural habitat.
It was almost an afterthought to visit the Yaquina Head Historic Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast. But how glad I am we made that destination. There we found an incredible mixture of beautiful clouds, striking coastline, vibrant wildlife, and the historic lighthouse- a unique place of renewal for the soul.
