I am learning that it is the little things in life that bring great joy. Not position, nor power, nor money, nor material things. Rather, it is sweet words, acts of kindness, fun moments, and the sharing of love that bring us happiness.
Michelle may not be ready to put this image into cyber space. But I love the fun little exchange on this make-shift love note that has hung on a picture frame in the kitchen for several months. It makes me happy.
I have always loved the beautiful lilies that Michelle has planted at our home. I had forgotten that we have some in the backyard until my little stroll through the yard today. Perfect symbolism for the upcoming Easter weekend.
Between my plantar fasciitis and my troubled knees, I have to be more particular about the shoes I wear. The right ones can make a lot of difference after a long day on my feet. I used to tease one of my former staff members because she would wear Birkenstocks. Of course, they were just for hippies from the Northwest and they looked rather odd to boot. Now I eat those words. Birkenstocks are the most confortable shoes I have found. Just the right kind and right amount of arch support. I am not moving to Oregon yet, but for now, I am a Birkenstock fan.
For years we have followed the tradition of going to dinner as a family on Saturday evenings. Although this is a luxury on one level, it has also been an important event to draw the family together. We are a captive audience for each other, giving us a natural time together to share, to put aside the hectic demands of daily life, and to have fun. Last night it was Pei Wei.
