I am thankful I could witness and document a beautiful sunrise this past weekend. I set up early and waited as the colors unfolded. The sunrise was available to all but only seen by a few that day. Such it is with many of God’s blessings. They are available if we make the effort to receive them.
Yesterday and the day before, I was fascinated by the clouds….again. I don’t remember seeing clouds just like this before. The sky was filled with the often-seen background of white fluffy puffs. But there were other clouds that were close to the ground– these clouds were alive with steady movement. They were darker in appearance and were almost close enough to touch. It was like seeing a movie in 3D! I really enjoyed experiencing God’s handywork in the sky. The two dimensional photo below hardly does it justice.
I am grateful to be able to play tennis. It has been an important outlet for me and the only form of exercise I actually enjoy. I am happy to be in Salt Lake City with our 4.0 men’s team this weekend for the six-state sectional tennis tournament. We had a tough day today, edging out Idaho 3-2 and losing to Colorado 2-3. Tomorrow it is Montana in the morning and Utah in the afternoon. Many of the matches are played at Liberty Park, a regular site for our family 4th of July picnics when I was as young boy.
Henry B. Eyring gave a masterful talk in October 2007 entitled “O Remember, Remember.” He taught the importance of remembering God and appreciating His hand in our lives. I am on day #204 of my year-long commitment to post daily ideas and feelings that help me keep a grateful heart. The ability to have gratitude is tightly linked to our ability to see God’s blessings in our lives. This focus on gratitude has blessed my life. It helps me keep proper perspective on the many opportunities I have been given.

Even the simple examples of life are miracles. Does the bee know he is an important part of the live-cycle that blesses us, as humans, with beautiful flowers? Even in this singular sample of life, that of flowers, there are unending varieties of shapes and colors and fragrances. I have walked by most of these during my life without any degree of awareness. May my mind and heart more fully appreciate the simple miracles of beauty that surround us.
